A Foggy April Morning in Fort Wayne

Spring mornings in northeast Indiana are often very foggy, with the fog usually gone by mid-morning. This is common even in my hometown, Fort Wayne, which is Indiana's second largest city.

Tuesday, April 29, 2014 was one of the most spectacular foggy mornings that I have seen in several years. After dropping my son off at school, I drove to Indian Village Park, a small city park between Bluffton Road and the Saint Marys River, across the street from Quimby Village Shopping Center on Fort Wayne's south side.

The light changed rapidly as the sun rose, and the fog persisted for a while as the sun continued to climb in the sky. I made these photographs between 7:30 and 8:00 am.

I have not seen a morning with such thick and long-lasting fog in this area since February, 2008. There were two consecutive days of heavy fog in rural Allen County that month, and I spent those days driving throughout the county photographing the incredible landscape.

I have always loved foggy weather. Most people here in Indiana are happiest when the sun is shining; I am happiest when it is foggy, murky, and rainy, because the light is so beautiful on such days. I have a lot more photographs of fog.
