In the summer of 2017, a couple of sunflower plants suddenly sprouted up next to my driveway. Perhaps because they got a late start, he plants never got very tall, only about three feet; but each was topped by a large, beautiful sunflower that attracted lots of honeybees, bumblebees, and moths.
When fall came, the plants died; sunflowers only live one year. Through the winter, they remained standing. The flowers drooped, pointing to the ground. Snow fell, covering them, then melting and falling again. I have been documenting them throughout this time, from the summer to the spring of 2018, when they finally disappeared.
