In July, 2007 I drove across the country from Santa Fe back to my hometown, Fort Wayne, Indiana, to pick up my 10 year old son, MacKenzie. Mack stayed a month with me, then we drove back across the country together to return him to his mother.

These photographs depict some of the places we passed by on our trip. My son got to see places he'd only read about: the high plains, the Ozarks, the deserts of New Mexico. My son and I don't appear in these images; we took hundreds of snapshots for our own photo album. You can see some snapshots of my son in New Mexico.

I retraced this journey, and explored some other areas of New Mexico, in my 2011 Road Trip.
