Grandpa And His Guitar

My grandpa, Charles Crawford, was 74 years old when I made this portrait of him. He is holding the guitar that his mother bought him for his 16th birthday. When he was young, grandpa and his friends played country music.

He still played his old guitar when I was a kid, but by the time I made this photograph, he had stopped playing it because the old instrument was starting to develop cracks. It was an inexpensive model; his family was poor back then, and it was what his mother could afford, but it wasn't made to last the more than 50 years that he used it. He loved it, though, and still remembered how happy he was when he got it!

Grandpa died in 2008, ten years after I made this portrait.

This was the very first photograph that I ever made using studio lighting, rather than natural light.

All of my prints are available framed or unframed. I use black metal Neilsen & Bainbridge frames with white cotton unbuffered museum board for the mat and backing board for maximum archival protection. Photographs are printed on an Epson pigment printer using Epson's archival ultrachrome inset for long life.

Credit card payment is handled through Paypal. You do not have to have a Paypal account. When you checkout, you will be taken to Paypal's site. If you have a Paypal account, sign in and approve the payment.

If you do not have a Paypal account, and do not want to sign up for one, there is a link on the Paypal page that says "Don't have a Paypal Account?" Click it to pay without signing up. It will accept your credit card like a normal credit card payment.

Unframed prints usually ship within 7 days. This allows time for me to make your print and to allow it to cure for several days before I package it to ship. Framed prints usually take about two weeks, because my framer usually requires about a week to complete his work.

Please Note: In late 2024, I was forced to dramatically increase the prices for framed prints. This reflects the actual cost of framing them. I make no profit from the additional charge for framing; I charge you what the framer charges me, and every framer that I know has had to ramp up prices due to inflation in recent years. I earn my living selling my photographs, and offer the framing at cost because many people prefer to buy a print that is framed and ready to display.

Thank you for supporting my work.
