Sam Hyde was the owner of Hyde Brothers Books on Wells Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

I made this portrait of him standing in one of the aisles of his store, next to one of the library-style rolling ladders used to access the top of the floor to ceiling shelves. He's holding a biography of Franz Kafka and wearing a "Wells Area Merchants" t-shirt.

I made this photograph a little over a year before Sam died. He passed away on July 9, 2019. He was one of the kindest, most generous people that I have ever known. When I was a young artist struggling to make enough money to live, Sam often gave me books that he thought I would like. He did the same for others, as well. Hyde Brothers is still open, owned by Sam's wife and managed by one of his longtime employees under the supervision of the store's two fat cats, Scout and Sherlock.

All of my prints are available framed or unframed. I use black metal Neilsen & Bainbridge frames with white cotton unbuffered museum board for the mat and backing board for maximum archival protection. Photographs are printed on an Epson pigment printer using Epson's archival ultrachrome inset for long life.

Credit card payment is handled through Paypal. You do not have to have a Paypal account. When you checkout, you will be taken to Paypal's site. If you have a Paypal account, sign in and approve the payment.

If you do not have a Paypal account, and do not want to sign up for one, there is a link on the Paypal page that says "Don't have a Paypal Account?" Click it to pay without signing up. It will accept your credit card like a normal credit card payment.

Unframed prints usually ship within 7 days. This allows time for me to make your print and to allow it to cure for several days before I package it to ship. Framed prints usually take about two weeks, because my framer usually requires about a week to complete his work.

Please Note: In late 2024, I was forced to dramatically increase the prices for framed prints. This reflects the actual cost of framing them. I make no profit from the additional charge for framing; I charge you what the framer charges me, and every framer that I know has had to ramp up prices due to inflation in recent years. I earn my living selling my photographs, and offer the framing at cost because many people prefer to buy a print that is framed and ready to display.
