English Classroom at Elmhurst High #1

This is a classroom in the English Department hall at Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I photographed it during a final tour of the school given to alumni in 2017.

All of the desks were auctioned off, along with nearly everything else in the school after it closed. All that is left in the room is an ancient television, still hanging in the corner above the spot where the teacher's desk once stood.

I think that this is the classroom where John Houser taught during my years at Elmhurst. One of the best teachers from my high school years, Mr. Houser was my 11th grade Honors English and US History teacher. Today, he is the principal at Wayne High School in Fort Wayne.

Elmhurst High School, which opened in 1929, was closed by Fort Wayne Community Schools in 2010. In 2017, they sold the building and land to Hanson Aggregates, which owns the huge limestone quarry next to the school. They plan to demolish the school soon.

All of my prints are available framed or unframed. I use black metal Neilsen & Bainbridge frames with white cotton unbuffered museum board for the mat and backing board for maximum archival protection. Photographs are printed on an Epson pigment printer using Epson's archival ultrachrome inset for long life.
