I met Sterling Hall Sr. after photographing another place near his house. I'd parked my car across the street from his house on High Street, just west of Runnion Avenue on Fort Wayne's west side.

As I was walking back to my car, his tiny white dog, Dot, began hysterically barking and snarling at me. I said to the dog; "My cat could eat you!" I used to have a 23lb cat who liked to terrorize dogs.

Mr. Hall was sitting in a wheelchair in the front doorway of his house, so I went up and started talking to him. He asked me why I was taking pictures, and I told him about my work documenting life in Fort Wayne. He asked me to take a picture of him.

While I was photographing him, he told me that he had recently had his right leg amputated.

Update: Sterling passed away on October 10, 2015. His daughter wrote to tell me of his death, adding that; "This was one of his favorite pictures, he loved showing it off. Thanks for adding a small piece of joy to his life."

I had given him a print a few days after I photographed him. I was sad to hear that Sterling had died, but I am glad that he loved the photo so much.

All of my prints are available framed or unframed. I use black metal Neilsen & Bainbridge frames with white cotton unbuffered museum board for the mat and backing board for maximum archival protection. Photographs are printed on an Epson pigment printer using Epson's archival ultrachrome inset for long life.

Credit card payment is handled through Paypal. You do not have to have a Paypal account. When you checkout, you will be taken to Paypal's site. If you have a Paypal account, sign in and approve the payment.

If you do not have a Paypal account, and do not want to sign up for one, there is a link on the Paypal page that says "Don't have a Paypal Account?" Click it to pay without signing up. It will accept your credit card like a normal credit card payment.

Unframed prints usually ship within 7 days. This allows time for me to make your print and to allow it to cure for several days before I package it to ship. Framed prints usually take about two weeks, because my framer usually requires about a week to complete his work.

Please Note: In late 2024, I was forced to dramatically increase the prices for framed prints. This reflects the actual cost of framing them. I make no profit from the additional charge for framing; I charge you what the framer charges me, and every framer that I know has had to ramp up prices due to inflation in recent years. I earn my living selling my photographs, and offer the framing at cost because many people prefer to buy a print that is framed and ready to display.
