The D.E. Elzey Building, built in 1950, is one of the oldest commercial buildings left in Waynedale. The building and the adjoining A.S. Elzey Building, built in 1925, are on the north side of Lower Huntington Road, just west of Old Trail Road.
The sign and banner announcing that the building will be put up for auction appeared a few days before I made this photograph. The empty storefront with the sign has been home to a large number of short-lived businesses in recent years, including a coffee shop, a computer repair shop, and a fitness center. The window on the right belongs to a much larger space that houses Dance Limited, a dance studio that has been there for over 25 years. My sister took tap-dance classes there when we were kids. There are apartments upstairs.
I hope that whoever buys the D.E. Elzey Building keeps it in good condition. It, and the other Elzey building, are reminders of Waynedale's history as an independent small town.
Waynedale was founded by Abner Elzey in the 1920s, and in 1957 the residents voted to join the city of Fort Wayne. Though Waynedale has been part of Indiana's second largest city for more than 50 years (longer than it was an independent town), it still looks and feels like a small town.

All of my prints are available framed or unframed. I use black metal Neilsen & Bainbridge frames with white cotton unbuffered museum board for the mat and backing board for maximum archival protection. Photographs are printed on an Epson pigment printer using Epson's archival ultrachrome inset for long life.
