Trees on Yohne Road

As long as I could remember, this group of five trees stood together in the middle of a field on the north side of Yohne Road in southwest Allen County, Indiana. They were just past the first bend in the road if you drove west from Smith Road.

Eventually, their land was purchased by the National Serv-All landfill (now Republic Services), located to the north of the field. In the summer of 2009, the old trees were bulldozed, and the land torn up to construct an expansion of the huge landfill, which serves as the main dump for the city of Fort Wayne. A wooden fence was later built around the area, blocking the view of it from the road.

These trees were scraggly and imperfect, but I thought that they had a certain beauty within them, and I photographed them many times over nearly a decade.
